November and December 2014

Thomas is SIX!

As impossible as it seems, Thomas is a 'big kid' now.  He is right at four feet tall, and about the most independent six-year-old I've ever met.  He makes his own snacks, gets himself dressed and ready for school in the morning, and figured out our new TV long before I did.  He lost his first tooth on December 16th and was so excited that he could barely fall asleep that night.

He loves kindergarten, although he hates getting up in the morning.  His favorite part of the day is lunch and recess, but he is doing great in everything.  We read together every day, and he is learning more and more sight words all the time.  He also sounds out words and gets frustrated if anyone jumps in and gives him a word without giving him long enough to figure it out on his own.

His current favorite is anything military related.  He loves playing Army and takes us on 'missions' through the house or outside.  The books he checks out at the library are all about the military, the video games he plays are soldier games, and he plays with army men and army vehicles.  Ronnie gave him some of his old stuff from when he was in the Army (a compass, flashlight, etc.) and Thomas was SO excited.

Thomas can be very reserved when he isn't at home or is with people he doesn't know well, but he is full of energy and excitement when he is in familiar surroundings.   He is quick to laugh and joke around and cracks us up constantly.  He picks up on the smallest details about things and is constantly asking questions so that he better understands things.  Sometimes when we are reading a book it will take us ten minutes to get through a single page because he wants to understand exactly what it is the author is describing.

We love seeing the world through his eyes - he brings something fresh and humorous to everyday happenings that we can't get enough of, and we are so excited about sharing the journey of being a six-year-old with him!
